      Detox on Hot Tea Month

If you have overdone the holiday season with late nights and rich food, why not kick off the new year with a January detox? The perfect way to wake up your wellbeing is to celebrate today’s international Hot Tea Day. Explore the myriad of teas that aren’t just good for your tastebuds, but good for your body and mind, too.

The healing properties of hot teas, tisanes and infusions have been known and used for centuries in Chinese and Ayurvedic traditions. There’s a growing body of Western research that suggests regular tea drinking has an array of health-giving benefits. These include reducing blood pressure and cardiovascular disease, tackling free radicals and boosting the immune system.

Iced tea might feel refreshing but drinking warm or (not too) hot liquids can have healthy results. Even a glass of hot water has a vasodilatory effect – expanding your blood vessels to improve your circulation.  Add some healthy herbs and spices to the mix for an even healthier option.

But when a single herb can be good for your body in so many ways, where do you begin your detox? There are so many healthful herbs to choose from. Here’s a quick overview that will get you started:

      To improve your digestion

To spice up a sluggish digestion, try out these gloriously gorgeous herbs and spices:

      Ginger

Ginger is a warming and aromatic root herb that reduces bloating and relieves discomfort. It contains gingerols, which have an anti-inflammatory effect. This is good for your whole body, not just your digestive system.

      Liquorice

Liquorice root is a demulcent: It soothes your stomach by gently coating and protecting the gut wall.

      Lemongrass

This delightfully aromatic herb has been used as an antispasmodic, relieving cramps and stomach discomfort.

      Aniseed

Aniseed is a distinctive herb that tackles bloating and nausea. A pinch of aniseed is  commonly used in India to aid digestion after meals.

To treat your tummy well, try:

      • Organic Ginger Breeze: Our winter best seller, this zingy mix of lemongrass, ginger and sweet licorice is blended with soothing peppermint. It’s a great place to begin to return your digestion to optimal health. Also available in silk teabags.
      • Botanical Reboot: Licorice and peppermint blended with fennel seed and a dash of caraway is the perfect tummy tonic.
      • Feel Good: Aniseed and cinnamon warm this aromatic blend. Feel Good also includes cinnamon, which has antiviral and antifungal properties.

      For calm and mental clarity

      Peppermint

Cooling and soothing, peppermint oil is often prescribed by doctors to relieve irritable bowel syndrome and other digestive disorders. But mint also has a deeply calming effect, and can help to relieve anxiety. It’s said to be an adaptogenic herb. This means it helps your nervous system respond to whatever it’s facing in the moment, for instance, by calming a racing mind or giving focus to a scattered one.

If you’d like to relax, try:

      • Organic Mint Duo: Deliciously mild and soothing in every way, there is no more refreshing herbal tea, than spearmint and peppermint. It’s natural leaf can be used as a spice, an additive for certain oils, or in the form of an infusion. Enjoy the delights of this tea at all times of day and allow it to assist with digestion and of course, relaxation.

      For all-round wellbeing

Rooibos is a bush that’s native to South Africa and it’s a healthy all-rounder. Naturally sweet, caffeine-free and low in tannin, rooibos is rich in potassium, iron, calcium, and packed with antioxidants like vitamin C. It also contains zinc, alpha hydroxy acid and copper, which support healthy hair and skin.

      For a power-packed tonic, try:

      • Organic Natural Rooibos: A hint of sweet honeysuckle balances the traditionally robust, rounded rooibos flavor.
      • Rooibos Masala: Rooibos blended with traditional Indian chai spices, such as digestion-soothing fennel, aniseed, licorice root, and ginger.
      • Rooibos Vanilla Earl Grey: A herbal take on the popular and delicately aromatic Earl Grey Tea.
      • Tropical Rooibos: Powerfully floral and uplifting, natural passion fruit flavor complements rooibos’ malty tones.

Make everyday Hot Tea Day to take advantage of all the goodness that nature provides. You’ll prepare your body and mind well for whatever this year throws at you.
